BODILY FUNCTIONS: This page contains three blackout poems that I created, each about the importance of suffering. The text used is from a work of William Shakespeare, entitled, “A Body Divided Cannot Walk,” in which a group of countrymen discuss the idea of discontentment with authority by comparing the physical parts of the body to the governing body.
STRANGE FRUIT: On this page is my improvisational jazz rendering of Billie Holiday’s “Strange Fruit”. The three versions of this recording is an audio illustration of how ideas in revolution are never fully original, and yet how once an idea is changed, it can never return to what it once was. These recordings also serve as a complementary source to my research paper.
ARTIFACT: Before, I was planning to make a podcast with some of my fellow classmates. However, after the coronavirus shut down the world, including the Davidson College community, I knew I couldn’t ignore this test of humanity in my portfolio. It would be inauthentic to my Humanities experience. This page is a reflection on and a response to the global health pandemic, which features many of my fellow Humesters.
